Sectoral Committee on a Field Outreach Visit

The Sectoral Committee for Production, Technical services, Natural resources and Trade together with RDC Kayunga carried out an oversight monitoring visit to 14 Ugift microscale irrigation beneficiaries in kiryamuli and kyanya villages in kayunga Subcounty and Misanga village in Bbaale subcounty.

This program is funded by the Government of Uganda with support from World Bank under Ministry of Agriculture, Animal, Industry and Fisheries as the lead Ministry.
At District level, it is implemented by the Production and Marketing Department.

In this program, Government co funds with the farmer paying 75% and farmer 25% depending on the type of irrigation and closeness of the water source.

This program enables farmers practice modern agriculture, improve productivity and standards of living.

In kayunga Subcounty, kiryamuli village, there were 3 beneficiaries using drag horse irrigation dealing in coffee farming on Prosco agro farm limited operating on 6 acres of land.

At kyanya village, there were 3 beneficiaries using drag horse irrigation on 7.5 acres dealing in maize, coffee, vegetables, banana plantation and cattle rearing.

At misanga village in Bbaale subcounty, there were 8 beneficiaries using sprinkler and drag horse irrigation and on 20 acres of land dealing in export crops like hot pepper, egg plants, tomatoes etc.

The beneficiaries applauded the government for this support since watering is expensive and tiresome but with this, they will use small land but get much profits.

The beneficiaries further requested the district to form coperatives so as to market their products. They are facing a challenge of animals eating their crops in Bbaale subcounty.

The Chairperson committee advised them to make use of the feasts farm APP to market their products.

The Vice chairperson urged Agricultural officer to own these farms and give support to beneficiaries.

The RDC thanked the President for this initiative and the Agricultural officers. She urged government to continue funding these programs and pledged her support and commitment.
