FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE QUARANTINE RESTRICTION IN KAYUNGA DISTRICT
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries has imposed a Foot and Mouth disease (FMD) quarantine restrictions in Kayunga District and the sorrounding areas following the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in Mr. Kabuye's farm in Kiyange village, Nakitokolo parish, Bbaale Sub county in Kayunga District.
According to the letter from Dr. Anna Rose Adenum, the Commissioner of Animal Health in the Ministry that has been addressed to the Chief Administrative Officer of Kayunga District,the Ministry has prohibited the movement, sale, purchase and slaughter of cattle,goats, sheep and pigs as well as and purchase of their products from, into,through and within the quarantine areas with immediate effect until further notice.
She has also directed for the closure of livestock markets, sluaghter places including butcheries and animal shows.
The Ministry has requested the Local Government staff, LC chairpersons, Chiefs, Enforcement personnel and the General Public to enforce quarantine restrictions in order to control the disease .
