Celebrating the World Elderly Awareness Day in Kayunga District.

Kayunga District Elders held a community dialogue on World Elder abuse Awareness Day in kayunga District.

 

 The Chief Guest was the Chairperson National Council for Elderly Persons. 

 

The Elderly Awareness Day was designed to add a voice and condemn the I'll acts to older persons.

Among the key objectives include:

 

1. Elderly people should be aware of their rights as old people.

 

2. Reminding them about healthy habits . 

 

3. Show them that Government cares for them through SAGE, SEGOP and the 10% in parish model.

 

4. To help them know there rights and responsibilities. 

 

5. To promote unity and togetherness. 

 

Apart from gender based violence, it was noted that they have other personal challenges including

economical, emotional and physical challenges.

 

The Elderly were advised to do the following:

 

Get enough sleep,spend time with family,eat healthy food and go for checkup in hospitals. 

 

The Chief Guest promised to engage the CAO on matters of 5% from the non wage for the elderly group.

 

He said that the Ministry of Gender is working upon the issue of increasing their money from 25000UGshs to 35000.

 

He told them to register with NIRA and get National identity cards.
