Teach for Uganda stakeholders engagement meeting at kayunga District Headquarters.
Teach for Uganda an NGO that has been implementing a 2 year program in kayunga District held a stakeholders engagement meeting at the District headquarters.
This engagement was intended to share the program's effectiveness, highlights and insights into the upcoming events.
The program equips learners from P1 to p3 with fundamental literacy and numeracy skills aimed at fostering creativity amongst them.
UWESCO discovered that 83% of learners at primary level can not read and 81% are experience learning poverty.
They attend classes but don't pick anything.
This is caused by low parental involvement in children's education and inadequate teacher capacity to support children.
Program achievements:
1. It has benefited 32 primary schools and trained 55 teachers on fundamental literacy and numeracy skills.
2. Empowered girls in making reusable pads.
3. Distributed digital learning items like projectors,tablets,speakers etc.
4. Provided smart kitchen saving stoves and bulb solar systems to schools
5. Provided financial health kits to schools.
Upcoming activities include:
1. Upcoming trainings
2. End of term meetings with headteachers and learners.
3. Impact assessment by the montoring and evaluation team.
4. Joint monitoring with the District.
5. Graduation for cohort 5.
6. Routine support of learners.
7. Closure meeting for financial education and end of project on 26th/July/2024.
The team appealed to the District leadership to support and sustain the program after their departure and to make sure the digital learning equipment distributed serve the purpose not being owned by headteachers.
